So...What is C.A.R.E. ? The Consortium of Amateur Radio Experimenters was founded in San Diego by Stu, WV6H and Jason, NF6E in 1989. Our primary focus is to provide the communities in which we serve, a highly sophisticated, linked amateur radio communications network. System access is available to disaster relief groups such as ARES, RACES and SKYWARN. Affiliate stations privately own and operate their repeaters and link stations in the VHF, UHF, 900 & 1200 MHz bands throughout the United States. System owners link their stations via RF links where available as well via VoIP gateways, EchoLink and IRLP.
Our EchoLink Conference Server (Node # 119705) is located in West Texas. All C.A.R.E. repeaters, remote bases, links and nodes are privately owned and operated. Each system owner of a C.A.R.E. affiliated station bear the cost of all construction, maintenance, site fees, etc. C.A.R.E. is not a club. There are no elected officers, meetings or "club politics." We provide a valuable service to our respective communities during emergencies, as well as enjoy experimenting and communicating with one another on a day to day basis. Other C.A.R.E. activities include applied research, construction and operations on other digital modes including, Spread Spectrum, Packet, APRS, PSK31, etc.
